The Mountain of Calamus

The Mountain of Calamus is a dynamic story of injustice done to me early on in my life, as an abused child, hated in many ways by my mother. It is a path full of supernatural miracles only a saint can walk as well. It is the pathway of a man misunderstood by a world that knows little about real love which always abuses and uses what it fails to understand is divine. / Click Here to Learn More!

The Mountain of Calamus came together in my late twenties. I had been kicking this theme around for a number of years back in those days, but had trouble forming the musical story until this recording. It basically remained in fragments, before age 25, until I had my first NDE (Near Death Encounter). What I saw in death, helped me understand the direction of my life and where God was leading me. Finally, when I was approaching 28 and could see my life more clearly, I sat down one night with the ideas fully formed. I then recorded what you are about to hear in the Virtual Reality Concert Hall of my home recording studio.

The Mountain of Calamus is a dynamic story of injustice done to me early on in my life, as an abused child, hated in many ways by my mother. It is a path full of supernatural miracles, only a saint can walk as well. It is the pathway of a man misunderstood by a world that knows little about real love, which always abuses and uses what it fails to understand is divine. It is my pathway into our Lord’s presence at age 25, when I died and came back to help the family I grew up in.

If you read Betty Eadie’s book, “Embraced By the Light” she tells of souls who incarnate to teach others what real love is all about. I’m one of those souls who came to the Earth, who our Lord sees as divine and pure in heart, in spite of my shortcomings and sins as Kevin Montague. As I stood before our Lord in death, he created a ribbon made of bluish silvery white light extending out over his right shoulder. In the ribbon was a slit going through it, which I knew represented me as Kevin F. Montague in this life time. He then commanded the slits to move through the course of the ribbon toward the outside of the ribbon. As this happened, my consciousness expanded to the greater knowledge I had before I was born here on this planet and who I fully am in Him, as a living soul. He eventually had to stop the revelation discourse, because I was starting to see that my parents and brother were in spiritual peril, which made me decide to come back and help them some more, even though our Lord first encouraged me not to come back, given my original life’s plan had been “wrecked”, to quote his exact words.

The entirety of what I am, I was shown in death, which is too much to even write about. We are all old souls, just some of us are more developed than others in each story we participate in, in God’s universes. This story of Calamus is a story of transformation and letting go: A story of being made fully free in love and grace through unbelievable hardship and injustices.

Naturally, you may paint your own story in the music colors I used in this score I wrote, as you listen to it. As for me, I know what I saw as I wrote it. I hope you see some of your own journey in my musical expression of my own. That is what music is for, when it comes to classical type approaches. But I’ll always see it as my life told in 25 minutes of music leading up to age 25. I had written this work looking back on my life at age 28 at that time, when I completed this musical work.

I used the name “calamus”, because it is one of the more healing herbs in the arsenal of herbs. So this instrumental story was written to deliver healing to those who listen to it and who love good piano scoring in story book form. My last name “Montague” means “steadfast as a mountain”. Given my own arduous pathway in life, I thought using the image of a mountain to symbolize my climb was in order and “calamus” signifies the climb to greater healing in my own spirit, as I braved the first 25 years of my life, which had not been easy up to that time and had gone terribly wrong I was shown in death.

So, if you love really good classical type piano music that will lift your soul and spirit, I think you’ll love my 25 minute tonal poem. I love all the classical composers of old and studied them in my University days as I was learning music theory. My dad loved classical music and would play it all the time around the house. I loved it too. He also loved the Big Band era from which came some really great music, which I also love.

My music theory classes had been hard. To complete them, you have to take a two year series of theory classes to complete that part of the degree, once you have mastered the fundamental classes. To give you some idea how hard they are to endure, when I entered my first theory class, there were about 45 people in that class. By the end of the two years, only I and four other people remained in that group. We were the sole survivors. I was among the top five in my class that made it through the mental gantlet of mastery.

You decide for yourself, when listening to this work, if I learned my stuff or not, as a composer and a pianist. I think you’ll enjoy hearing the whole thing, once you make your purchase. I never did take the time to write this score down, although I’m very adept in notation. My life just never slowed down, enough to write this one down, but it is preserved on my reel to reel tapes over the years. I’ve enhanced the recording quality using some cool computer programs I own, which I used to correct equalization problems in the original recording, as well as the amplitude levels to make for a more finished quality recording. You’ll be getting more than your money’s worth with this work.

So please support me by making a purchase. Feel free to write a review to encourage others to buy my work. Your love for music and encouragement in your review does help others to give my talents a listen.

Thoughtfully,
Kevin F. Montague
Solo Pianist and composer
